The lawyer — Laurence Eisenstein, whose firm works to recover artwork looted by the Nazis — said he’d been speaking to a British scholar who’d come across the name René Gimpel in art collectors’ archives. Thousands of objects lost or lootedAs well as being a famous gallerist of his time, René Gimpel was a very well-connected man. Captured sometime between 1916 and 1933, it showed the three Derain paintings in question hanging on the art dealer’s wall. In 2020, seven years after they began their fight, the Gimpel heirs were finally reunited with the three Derain paintings. Dumas said this is often not the case for Jewish families trying to recover their ancestors’ stolen art.

The 24-year-old man, wearing shorts, made his way up the landmark skyscraper for more than an hour as police and fire crews gathered below. British media reported he was arrested and jailed for climbing the Shard building in London in 2019. In 2018, police arrested “French Spiderman” Alain Robert as he was more than half-way up the Lotte World Tower.

Alain Robert, 60, climbs without a harness, using only his bare hands and a pair of climbing shoes. "I'm here to show my support for those who oppose the pension reform," he told Reuters before starting his ascent of the 150-metre (492 foot) skyscrapper in Paris' La Defense business district. Under the reform, the French retirement age will gradually rise to 64 from 62.
